John McDonald Design, springs from a love of fine design, the art of communication and a passion for design.
John has worked since 1991 as a designer. His specialties include surface pattern design, graphic design, digital illustration, paper engineering and product design and development. In 2006 he launched his own line of greeting cards in order to fulfill his life long dream whereupon he immediately became personally familiar with all aspects of production and marketing in the stationery marketplace.
John has worked with various clients such as Morgan Stanley, Sony Plaza Inc., Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Wooster & Prince, Ethel M Chocolates, The Container Store and Up With Paper to name a few. He also has had the honor of participating in The Museum of Modern Art Holiday Card Program, and his designs’ have appeared yearly since 1998. He has been the recipient of three Louie Awards for his MoMA designs along with other nominations.
John has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Communication Design from Otis School of Art and Design, Los Angeles. Also from Otis he has earned a certificate in Surface Pattern Design.
Elegant, refined and sometimes whimsical, these are all qualities that his work possess. He is inspired by his surroundings, things old and new. Johns’ hope is that his designs will touch people in a way that they may not first recognize, but will inspire beauty and sense of well being from viewing and/or using his designs.
